Spain is full of surprises and one of them is having amazing Vegetarian Restaurants all around the capital city of Madrid. It is a known fact that Spain is the place of origin for some of the most iconic foods out there in the world- Paella, Tapas, Patatas Bravas, Gazpacho, Tortilla, Sangria, Churros, Croquetas, and the list goes on..!
Although most of the popular dishes are meat-based, vegetarians (like me) don’t have an issue finding great restaurants especially in Spain’s capital city of Madrid.
When I went for a week-long trip to Spain in the summer of 2021, I found some pretty amazing places to eat from during my 3 days in Madrid. I want to share a list of my favourite restaurants in Madrid as there are lots of options to choose from and this post might just help you
1. Artemisa Sol
Artemisa Sol is a very cute restaurant located in the busy area of Gran Via Street. This place is quite popular among locals as it provides home-cooked and rustic style food. The best part apart from the delicious food is its price point. We had a fantastic 3-course meal which cost us just 13 euros per person! This restaurant cannot be missed.
2. La Hummeseria
This lovely cozy cafe specializes in Middle Eastern cuisine and serves a vegetarian version of shakshuka, salads, meze platters and a lot more. We had this simple yet very tasty Persian stew with rice, a hummus platter and refreshing lemonade.
3. Vega
This high-end vegan restaurant needs reservation as there is a limited sitting area in this compact yet classy place. The menu is not vast but they have curated some unique dishes like courgette lasagne, grilled vegetables with a twist, hand-made noodles with hoisin sauce and seaweed. We loved all the dishes we ordered and had a great time.
4. San Gines
This is not a typical restaurant but totally worth adding to this list because it would be a sin to miss it if you are in Madrid. The famous chocolateria San Gines, a cafe built in 1890 originally to serve as a guesthouse, then became the place for the production of churros. They serve the best churros with a cup of super thick and delicious hot chocolate to dip in and are very decadent. Always full of customers, this place is open 24/7 (how freaking amazing!!). We were in sweet heaven after indulging in these churros. An absolute must-visit when in Madrid.
5. Level Veggie Bistro
This charming restaurant is located overlooking the gorgeous El Retiro Park and is quite popular for the way food is presented there. Level Veggie Bistro takes efforts in blending food and art together and provides a polished service to their customers. Their vegan tapas and raw vegan dishes are a must-try.
6. Pizzi & Dixie
A popular Italian vegetarian restaurant, they serve delicious pasta and pizzas and even Nutella pizza if you have a major sweet tooth! It is located in the Malasana neighborhood of Madrid and is a go-to place for locals.
7. Viva Burgers
With their juiciest veg patties, Viva burgers prove that even vegetarian burgers can be enjoyed to the fullest without craving any meat. Located in the heart of Madrid – La Latina, this beautiful place is a must-visit to enjoy some decadent vegetarian burgers.
8. B13
This is the place to satisfy your guilty pleasures and the best part- the all-vegetarian version. They serve their version of “ham” burgers, tapas, burritos, cakes and all things yummy. A great place to enjoy yourself with friends or even with your date, B13 is a must-try place in Madrid.
9. Pura Vida
They specialize in making food from the scratch using best organic ingredients. Pura Vida has a very relaxed vibe and a great place to enjoy the food and also cocktails with a group of friends. They have a beautiful range of options to choose from and you won’t be disappointed.
10. Reineta Vegetariano
They serve organic red wine with their delicious range of food items from the venue. They serve interesting dishes like veggie meatballs, green rice, couscous, pumpkin soup and a lot more. Always packed with customers, reservation is a good idea to enjoy this lovely place.
